One of the original female pioneers of the sport, McGee was the first National Girls' Skateboarding Champion in 1965 and the first female pro skateboarder. McGee popularized the image of a woman on a skateboard, appearing on the cover of Life Magazine and The Johnny Carson Show.  After retiring from the sport in the early 1970s, McGee and her daughter now run The Original Betty Skateboard Company. In 2010, McGee became the first female inductee in the Skateboarding Hall of Fame.
