GEORGEANN WELLS / by Molly Schiot

On December 21, 1984, 6 foot 7 inch West Virginia junior Wells became the first woman to dunk a basketball in competition.  It would be a full decade before another woman would do the same and 25 years before video proof of Wells' dunk was unearthed and made public. Following her college basketball years, Wells played professionally in Europe and toured with the Harlem Globetrotters.
