Foekje was a Dutch Track and Field athlete. In 1950 she was banned from competition for life by the International Association of Athletics Federations. Foekje had refused to go to a mandatory sex test for the European championships in Brussels in August 1950. In the last century several dozen female athletes were expelled for life for having a Y-chromosome. Gender verification by the IAAF is very controversial. It's discriminatory and causes great trauma for girls who never doubted their gender.
